Shot 06
These are the shots I worked on for the animatic! They're in their rough state, just before cleanup.
There were three of us on the animation team and each one had a set of shots to work on from start to finish. We had storyboards and a script to work off of. The important quality to keep was the rough feeling of an animatic while translating what the script wanted to portray. With a tight deadline looming over our heads, it was a challenge, but rewarding and fun.
Once the animation was complete, the cleaned shots were exported separately from the background and sent off to the team working on compositing.
For this project, I worked primarily with ToonBoom Harmony.
Character Animation
Buzzer: Walk Onstage & Idle
Buzzer: Moves
Buzzer: Status
Buzzer: Victory & Defeat
A starter character in the game, Buzzer is a playful fly Otto can recruit into his troupe. Buzzer sings, flips, and flutters, happy as can be - until he's defeated. The poor little guy is so disappointed, he almost loses his hat!
I worked on the majority of Buzzer's kit, as well on his redesign. Initially, I was in charge of the entire process, from concept to finished product. Afterwards, as key animator, I did the roughs and charts to send off down the pipeline. For these animations, I worked in ToonBoom Harmony.

Gackle: Marionette
Gackle: Status
Gackle
Otto's basement-dwelling roommate, Gackle, is a party animal with a unique look. He was fun to animate! The two tentacle limbs seem to have a mind of their own, but they work together in these two status effects I was tasked with keying. They each have a dedicated layer to keep them from getting tangled up and make revisions quicker and easier.
For these animations, I worked in ToonBoom Harmony.
Hyena Sisters
Hena and Aney are as adorable as they are unsettling. Animating two characters as one unit was a challenge, particularly with timing, and I am quite proud of the results.

Prowler: Idle & Victory
Prowler: Healed & Monologue
Prowler is a mischievous spirit and was incredibly fun to animate. Will he hinder or help Otto on his journey? Stay on guard!

Smokestack: Walk Onstage & Idle
Smokestack: Moves & Victory
Otto's employer, Smokestack, has character to spare - and so does his hat. In fact, that hat does all the hard work during battle! Spewing smoke, flashing lights - if you need special effects, this is your guy.
For these animations, I worked in ToonBoom Harmony.

Key Art
For the game's kickstarter, many artists were contracted to make key art illustrations. I was assigned "Play the Demo", "DICE Mechanics", and "Cast". All three were made in Adobe Photoshop.
Play the Demo, as in the title, was intended to encourage backers to test the currently available demo of the game.
DICE Mechanics was meant to illustrate four principles of the game: Diversity, Inclusivity, Community, and Empathy.
Cast was a peek behind the curtain, watching the toons scurry about backstage while preparing for their next performance.

InkwellTober
2020
In the spirit of Inktober, the Workshop set up InkwellTober. Prompts were provided for each day of October and we were encouraged to create an inked drawing for each one. I was unable to complete the entire month, but of those I created, these are the highlights.

ToonTober
2021
The second round of InkwellTober was given the name ToonTober. I decided to challenge myself and combine the ToonTober prompts with a second list a friend shared for StreamInk. Success! I completed the entire month! These are the highlights.

Character Design
Buzzer
Before animating Buzzer, I had the opportunity to update his design from the old one. I decided to incorporate real buzzers into his design alongside the fly motif. While brainstorming with the team, we decided to plop a little hat on his head. Voilá! Buzzer was born. He's very expressive, to boot, and fun to work with.
All drawings were made in Adobe Photoshop.
Scrawny Scarecrow
Scrawny Scarecrow is a character I was asked to design for the game. I was given a character biography and a list of characteristics he was meant to have. Modifications have been made to ensure he's more animation friendly. I took inspiration from Turnip Head from Howl's Moving Castle to design this noodly scarecrow.
All drawings were made in Adobe Photoshop.
